How to play

During most of the game, players guide Mario as he travels through various locations in the Mushroom Kingdom. The game is divided into chapters, each taking place in a different area. These areas are populated by non-playable characters (NPCs) and enemies. Some NPCs, like Tayce T., offer services that can benefit Mario and his party.

Throughout the adventure, Mario and his allies utilize various abilities to progress. Mario can jump to reach higher areas, cross gaps, or hit blocks floating above him. Additionally, he acquires a hammer early on that can break larger blocks and other obstacles. As the game progresses, players collect special items that upgrade Mario's jumping and hammer abilities, granting him new skills.

At the end of each chapter, players briefly assume control of Princess Peach. However, Peach does not have access to Mario's abilities, party members, or inventory. Any items collected while playing as Peach can be stored in the Mysterious Treasure Chest in the castle's storage room. Mario can retrieve these items from the counterpart chest located at Merluvlee's Place.
